Fishing Report 07/02/18

We are into July already and the past week has seen a nice uptick in the bottom fishing arena. Fluke are finally filling in locally with multiple fish in the 4-6 lb range landed on the Petrel this week. Yesterday was lights out for us with the Fluke fishing. In fact, the best we have seen yet this year. Check our Open Boat Events page for your chance to hop on the next Fluke trip. Or book a private charter for your group. Plenty of options.

Overall the fisheries are slowly getting established. We have seen more migratory Stripers and Fluke than usual for this time of year. Bluefish make an occasional appearance but for the most part have been in hiding. Striped Bass fishing is just that…fishing. One day it is spectacular, the next day challenging. Sea Bass are all over the place but most of them are shorts, very few big keepers yet in our area, but a week can change a lot. Porgies are filling in very nicely so they have become a sure bet. Due to the nice turn with Fluke Fishing locally, we are mixing it up a bit on our half day charters targeting Fluke, Porgies and Striped Bass.

Full Day charters will continue to run to Montauk or Block Island for Jumbo Fluke and Sea Bass. The new “quarter day” charters have begun also. these are 3.5 hours, and we stay local targeting Fluke, Sea Bass, & Porgies. Lots of fun for the kids with plenty of action and easy on the parents too! Half Day (6 Hour) charters will remain Striped Bass and Bottom fishing for the time being. Should see the Bluefish by mid July. About the same time the bigger Sea Bass should begin arriving.

Until then…Tight Lines!
