Fishing Report Fall Season Updates 09/24/18

In the past few weeks we managed to get out eight times as we dodged the remnants of hurricane Florence. The fisheries however did feel the impact of the storm surge for a few days After Florence came thru. We made it to the “outer grounds” off Montauk last Sunday before the storm came thru and were treated with multiple whale sightings, jumbo sea bass to 4 lbs, and even a keeper cod. Hit the Race on the way home and in 2 drifts, boated a half dozen bluefish on diamonds. Get your smokers ready the blues are in! Recently we have had Fluke between 4-8 lbs, monster bluefish to 15lbs, and seabass pushing the 5lb. mark. Aside from the weather, the fishing is getting into high gear.

Fluke and Sea Bass Charters Connecticut

False Albacore pods began to appear on Wednesday morning’s trip. If you have never hooked one of these mini tunas, we just set up a number of open boat trips with both sunrise and sunset options for you. Our first Albie hookup of the year started with a quick 100 yard dump/dash that lasted all of 6 seconds! These fish are a blast on light tackle spinning gear or fly rods. We have the spinning outfits, but if you want to try your hand at presenting a fly to these stealthy torpedoes, jump on an open boat trip! Lots of schoolie bass and blues are also popping up with the albies so we have a lot of options in the close to home light tackle trips. These are catch and release trips for the most part and we have private charters (3.5 Hours) for $420 Max 6 people, or open boat trips $95 per angler. Open boat trips and tickets can be viewed and purchased HERE.

Light Tackle False Albacore Charters Connecticut

Local bottom fishing still has yet to get into high gear. Usually by now the Jumbo Porgies begin to settle in close to us, and a few jumbo sea bass join the parade. As of last week, that has not happened….yet. Fluke are moving off to MTK Point and Block for their annual fall migration. We still have up until Sept. 30th to target the last of the flatties before the season comes to a close. Porgies and Sea Bass will remain open until the end of December. Limit on Porgies is now 45 per person, Sea Bass 7 Per person.

You have about a week left to book your Blackfish Charters at a significant discount! ($160 OFF!)

If we have your deposit by Sept 30th for any trip booked between Oct 11-Nov 10th 2018, you get an 8 hour trip for $820. After Sept 30th, regular full day 8 hour rates apply ($980). We are also going to try to do at least one open boat Blackfish trip per week and the cost will usually be $150 per angler. (If you act fast you can get in on the Exploratory trip for $95 per angler). We will be checking out some new pieces of bottom for future trips. Tickets are only sold online for Open Boat Trips, so click on HERE to view dates, rates, and purchase your tickets. We will be pulling the deck chairs off during the Blackfish season to give everyone more room to move around. Open Boat trips are now limited to 5 anglers too! All bait and tackle is included in the price. (A tip for the mate is not.) Customary tip for the mate is 15-20% of your fare.

We still have about 7 weeks left in our season, and the Fall is unquestionably our favorite time of year to fish. You get the most variety of species, less competition on the water, hungry migrating fish, and cool relaxing temperatures. Hop on an open boat to try us out, or get a group together and book a private charter. Time is ticking before its too late. Don’t wait.
