Just like the weather, the fishing got HOT!
Everything is starting to break wide open as a variety of species are settling into their local haunts. We had some larger STRIPED BASS move in over the past week. Still a lot of action on the shorts but the bigger fish are starting to chew. The 5.5 hour charter is the way to go for Bass and Blues. BLUEFISH have arrived earlier this year than in past years which is a good sign. Good eating/smoking sizes too.
SEA BASS quantity and quality have impressed although still a bit of a ride to get to the larger fish. FLUKE are becoming more abundant and on Tuesday we managed a nice thick 27″ fish pushing 9 lbs. (For both Sea Bass and Fluke, your best bet are the 7 Hr. or 9 Hr. Charters). We make some longer runs for both of these species the rest of the season to get you into the jumbo sized specimens of both species.
PORGIES are filling in everywhere. Some real large dinner plate sized porgies have been pleasing on our 7 Hr. Charters. We will start our combo half day (5.5. hr) option around July 4th. (Get a mix of Stripers and Blues and combo that up with Porgies and Sea Bass).
SEA ROBINS. Interesting that I am adding these to the report. We have gotten some fantastic feedback from customers this year who opted to keep a few and eat them. They are not the prettiest to look at but very tasty! We don’t target this species specifically as they are more of a by-catch. We encourage you to try a few, they make great fish nuggets!
We are currently running the 5.5, 7 and 9 Hour Charters. the 3.25 Hour (1/4) day charter will begin around July 4th. We have dates available and have had to turn away lots of last minute bookings so book your charters well in advance to get the day and time you want.
FALL FISHING: Due to the fact we didn’t start fishing until mid June we want to pass along how excellent our Fall Fisheries are here. After labor day the limits on Sea Bass and Porgy increase per person too! In the Fall we catch everything. BLACKFISHING will start mid October so start looking at your calendar. False Albacore should also arrive in early September if you want to try your hand at light tackle topwater casting for these speed demons.
Wishing everyone a safe and healthy season and we hope to see you soon!
